1956 Mercedes 190SL -Parked and Unused for several years

Our seller is a retired dentist, 90 years old this year. He purchased this 190SL twenty three years ago, in 1998. The offering is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most sought after vintage Mercedes convertible models, the 190SL (W121), at a "restoration project" price level. This 190SL has been stored in a climate-controlled facility. It is not known when it was last driven, although the historic license plate expired in 2018. The mechanic who last worked on this car for the seller states that he did start it recently (only to hear that it does start) and it ran rough (the mechanics advice was to drain and replace the gas in the tank as a first step). We are, unfortunately, offering this opportunity with very limited information because of the failing health of our seller and his inability to communicate the details of the history and mechanical condition. We were told that it was kept in his personal garage along with his '66 250SE and a 2nd 190SL. To be clear, it is not in running and driving condition, it is being offered in "as is" condition, as you see it in the pictures, based on the decision of his family members. Overall, the appearance is "good". Many would view the cosmetic condition as "casual/week-end car show" level, far from perfect, although nice enough to drive and be proud to show what you own. The paint is older, and up close you can see the effects of age with cracking in some areas, although it still has good gloss and depth that would be improved with a "buff and wax" enhancement. I went over the entire body with a magnet, and with the exception of the factory aluminum panels, the magnet did adhere in all areas. The paint code is 516, Medium Red. Note that the factory radio has been replaced with an aftermarket unit with additional speakers. The hardtop is included, with the soft top in place in it's folded position behind the seats.
